Internet Statistics Company hitwise believed that Social network companies may need to develop widgets that are compatible for multiple social networks, or applications that draw in data from the full spectrum of a user’s social graph. Other potential avenues for marketers include targeting websites that facilitate management of user data sources, such as Plaxo.
Their statistics show that of the traffic that MySpace, Facebook and Bebo send to other Social Networks, more than 89% of their downstream traffic is sent to second-tier players. While the major players hold concentrated market share of visits to the Social Networks custom category, there is significant referral traffic to minor networks.
Hitwise has developed proprietary software that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) use to analyse website usage logs created on their network. The anonymous data sent to Hitwise from the ISPs include a range of industry standard metrics relating to the viewing of websites including page requests, visits and average visit length.

New rules for age-restricted internet and mobile content The Australian Communications and Media Authority has determined new rules that for the first time implement a uniform approach for restricting access to MA15+ and R18+ content accessed through the internet or by mobile phones. The new Restricted Access Systems Declaration places obligations on all content service providers to check that individuals accessing restricted content provided in Australia are at least 15 years of age for MA15+ content or 18 years of age for R18+ content.
The new rules, which come into effect on 20 January 2008, arise from legislation passed in July 2007. Similar to previous obligations relating to stored content, the new rules provide that after receiving a complaint and investigating internet or mobile content, ACMA may require the content service provider to either remove the content or place the content behind specified access restrictions.

A domain name registration provider or registrar is a company accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to sell Internet domain names. ICANN has authority over gTLDs, or Generic Top Level Domains. Examples of gTLDs include .com, .net and .org. ICANN does not have authority over ccTLDs, or Country Code Top-Level Domains. Registrars compete with each other to provide the best support and services at the lowest price. Most registrars provide DNS hosting service.
